You shall teach [these words] diligently to your children. — Deuteronomy 6:7

As a priest, Eli had accomplished much for the Lord, but as a dad, he fell short. He put off disciplining his sons for too long, and when he finally did, his reprimand was so ineffective that they paid no attention. Eli's life came to a tragic end because his sons disobeyed the Lord's commands.

The risk can be reduced, but even the most loving parents cannot guarantee that their children won't walk away from the Lord. Children are more likely to succeed in life if they know their parents expect obedience and will discipline disobedience, especially when discipline is fair and administered in love.

One of the most valuable assets in life is a strong family. Let's do all in our power to create a community where each person is treated with love and respect.

Christian homes are constructed; they don't just appear. Our children are a gift from God, given to us on loan from heaven, for the purpose of raising them in the Lord and demonstrating His love.

It is more blessed to give than to receive. — Acts 20:35

People who take charge of their lives and make an effort to not burden others are admired. Such independence is admirable. However, if every individual in need in the world—which includes all of us at some point—refused assistance, nobody would have the chance to do so.

When we read Jesus' words in Acts 20:35, "It is more blessed to give than to receive," we have a tendency to just think about the blessing of giving. Although our Lord did not suggest it was improper to accept a gift, he did indicate that our main focus should be on giving rather than receiving. Giving and receiving are both admirable, gratifying, and even required in reality.

Perhaps praising receiving in this age of greed is hazardous. When given this less significant but nonetheless valuable blessing, however, many earnest and well-intentioned people balk. They retort, "Oh, I can't take that!" or "You really shouldn't!"

Why are we this way? Personally, I've come to the conclusion that it frequently stems from a desire to not feel dependent on others, or from pride, or from a want to be in control. However, these covert tendencies are egotistical and go against the teachings of the One who declared, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."

Perhaps we should practice being a gracious recipient in order to allow others to benefit from our generosity.

Like gracious giving, grateful receiving also stems from the heart. I gave out of excessive pride, and the blessing withdrew until I cried humbly to the Lord and discovered how to accept.

Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy. — Psalm 99:9

If admiring worship is the main activity of angels and saints in heaven, we should view this life as a training ground for adoration.

Heaven will seem like home to those who worship God on earth.

Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. — Hebrews 12:1

Few experiences compare to the difficulty and thrill of mountain climbing. Participants in this endurance and competence test enjoy comparing peaks and exchanging stories. When European mountaineers get together to share tales, they frequently talk about crossing a certain tomb on the way to a well-known summit. He Died Climbing and a man's name are written on the marker.

Mountain climbing is a metaphor for living a life of faith in my opinion. We are to keep climbing the ladder of life—learning more about God, deepening our relationship with Christ, strengthening our resistance to temptation, and moving forward in sharing the gospel with the unreached.

In the words of the Hebrews author, "Let us run with endurance." The phrase "with endurance" can also mean "with perseverance," or more frequently, "to the end."

Such a man of God was Joshua. He started his "climb" in Egypt and finished it in the Promised Land. He achieved amazing victories. According to Joshua 24:31, "Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua." Joshua continued to exhort Israel to serve God faithfully to the end of his life (v. 23).

Help us to serve You faithfully, Lord Jesus. May we continue to climb all the way to the end.

As we progress higher, faith grows stronger. I want to reach the highest point and catch a glimpse of the glory that shines; however, I won't stop praying until I reach heaven: "Lord, lead me on to higher ground."

A merry heart does good, like medicine. — Proverbs 17:22

Although the Bible is not a psychology work, it offers the best advice for achieving happiness right now. According to Proverbs 17:22, for instance, "a merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones."

However, such change can be brought about through faith in God. People who place their faith in God's goodness and look past their current problem cannot help but be glad.

Our Lord's repeated use of the phrase "Be of good cheer" (Mt. 9:2,22, 14:27, Acts 23:11) is important. He gives us this message of comfort in the face of life's numerous challenges: "Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world" (John 16:33).

God . . . will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but . . . will also make the way of escape. — 1 Corinthians 10:13

Load-limit signs can be observed on roads, bridges, and elevators. Engineers calculate the precise amount of stress that various materials and manufactured goods can safely withstand given the knowledge that excessive stress can result in serious damage or total collapse. We must not go above the maximum load, according to posted warnings.

The load limits that apply to humans differ from person to person. For instance, some people are better able to withstand the pressure of temptation and trial than others, but everyone has a breaking point and can only take so much.

We occasionally feel as though people and situations are straining us beyond our capacity. But because He is aware of our limits, the Lord never enables us to face challenges that are too great for us to handle. This is particularly true when sin tempts us. "God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted beyond what you are able," declares 1 Corinthians 10:13.

So, have bravery when temptations and hardships come your way! Keep in mind that your heavenly Father is aware of the pressures you can withstand in life. Make use of His might. There will never be a greater temptation than that!

You won't succumb to sin if you yield to God. When we are confronted with grief or fear, His love will not forsake us; He will lead us with His eye. And when we are on the verge of fainting and failing, He will supply what is lacking and enable us to succeed.

Everyone practicing evil hates the light . . . . But he who does the truth comes to the light. — John 3:20-21

Today, a lot of powerful people publicly display their hatred for the light. For instance, a recent book claimed that Jesus Christ had three wives. Although there is no evidence at all to support such a claim, reviews of the book handled it as though it were credible. They are either unable to accept that He is the spotless Son of God and the Light by which we shall all be judged in the future or they have not read the biblical narratives of His life.

People who engage in wickedness, according to Jesus, despise the light and avoid it lest their deeds be revealed (Jn. 3:20).

Lord, grant us the love of truth that will enable us to constantly welcome the light, even when it shows us to be in error.

"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." — Acts 16:30-31

The imprisonment of Paul and Silas for the cause of the gospel raised a significant spiritual dilemma in the mind of their jailer. However, this wasn't accomplished by delivering a three-point sermon to him. Instead, they prayed and worshiped God through song. The jailer attempted suicide when an earthquake shattered their shackles and opened the prison doors because he thought he would be executed if his inmates fled. However, Paul and Silas dissuaded him by deciding to remain in custody for his benefit. He screamed out, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" at this point. (Acts 16:30).

As it did then, the Spirit will instill in people's hearts the appropriate queries and prepare them to receive the appropriate response—Jesus Christ.

I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word. — John 17:20

Job didn't require enemies when he had pals like his. The three people who tried to console him in vain failed horribly. They repeated a credo of iron and ice that did not provide sympathy but instead made his suffering worse.

However, Job was able to emerge triumphantly from his cavern of suffering and perplexity. His readiness to pray for the very friends who had berated and accused him was a crucial step in that victory. Job had the pleasure of seeing his friends' repentance and restoration as God heard and answered his prayers.

Despite their ongoing shortcomings, Jesus prayed for His friends (Jn. 17:9–19). Jesus prayed for Peter while knowing that Peter would disown Him in a matter of hours when the shadow of the cross fell heavily upon Him (Lk. 22:32–34).

As well as for you and me, Jesus prayed (Jn. 17:20–24). Before His death and resurrection, He began His work of prayer, and it is still going strong today. Jesus died for us, reigns in authority for us, and still intercedes for us—despite the fact that we occasionally behave more like His enemies than His friends (Rom. 8:34).

We are to pray for our friends and acquaintances, even when they offend us, in the manner of Christ. Do you have somebody today for whom you could pray?

Praying for someone makes us love them more than anything else. We will follow His model for prayer and pray for the needs of others as we make an effort to live like Christ in our acts, words, and deeds.
