Bring the cloak . . . and the books, especially the parchments. — 2 Timothy 4:13

Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. — Ephesians 4:25
Knowing what we want to say and the person we are speaking to are both necessary for effective communication. Additionally, getting to know one another calls for a readiness to be transparent about our flaws and shortcomings.
Because we are all members of one another, Paul advised us Christians to communicate honestly with one another. Additionally, he urged us to be "kind to one another, tenderhearted, and forgiving one another" (Eph. 4:32). That is Christlike love, and it offers the safety necessary for effective dialogue to flourish.
Mephibosheth . . . shall eat at my table like one of the king’s sons. — 2 Samuel 9:11
Because of this, David was happy to be courteous to Saul's grandson, who was "lame in his feet" (2 Samuel 9:3). Mephibosheth's disability may have caused some to reject him, but David's actions made it clear how much he respected the man.
Each and every person is valuable in God's eyes. He made His one and only Son our Savior. May we always be grateful for His great regard for every human life.
To God, every person is valuable. Lord, help us to see the fair imprint of Your image in everyone we encounter. Also, may their unique dignity become stronger as a result of our love and care.

Many believed in Him, but . . . they did not confess Him, . . . for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. — John 12:42-43
Even grownups enjoy winning over the respect of others. This innate craving for praise is OK. Sincere praise has the power to inspire us and bring out the best in us. Additionally, the Bible instructs us to anticipate the day when we will be honored by God (1 Cor. 4:5). The issue, though, is that we frequently give more weight to the acclaim we receive from others in this life than to the praise we receive from God in the life to come.
I am . . . rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ. — Colossians 2:5
Satan is a skillful manipulator; in fact, Jesus referred to him as "the ruler of this world" (John 16:11). The instructors who were attempting to convince the Colossians to accept error as truth were motivated by him (Col. 2:4, 8).
Christians now are engaged in a comparable conflict. How can we protect ourselves from liars? In his remarks to the Colossians, Paul utilized military jargon that can guide us as to what to do. He first praised them for their "good order," which meant that they were disciplined, battle-ready soldiers. He also mentioned their "steadfastness" in Christ, which is another way of saying that they were putting up a strong front. They remained steadfast in their devotion to their Lord and the expansion of His kingdom.
Jesus our Lord . . . was raised because of our justification. — Romans 4:24-25
One of history's most well-known events is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. More than 500 eyewitnesses who saw Jesus after He rose from the dead—the majority of whom were still alive when the apostle wrote to the Corinthians—were claimed by Paul as indisputable proof.
The fact that Christ's death on the cross at Calvary totally atoned for humankind's sin and secured salvation for those who put their faith in Him as Savior is equally certain. And the assurance of this is provided by Christ's resurrection. Jesus would not have emerged from the tomb if even one sin had gone unatoned for.
It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. — Hebrews 9:27
Our fear of dying can be transformed into hope because Jesus died for us and rose again from the dead. When we accept Him as our personal Savior, that occurs. The best approach to prepare for our inevitable meeting with death is to do that. Make sure that's all you have to do when it's time to pass away. Although death and suffering are constant companions in our lives, Jesus' cross can provide us with comfort and dispel our fear of it.

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. — 1 John 4:10
Millions of Christians worldwide are especially grateful on this Good Friday because it serves as a reminder of what God achieved via His Son nearly 2,000 years ago.
But why do we consider today a nice day? Wasn't this one of history's darkest days? Self-righteous religious leaders shamelessly crucified God's spotless Son, who went about doing good, healing the sick, and giving hope to sin-ruined lives. That is the worst kind of evil. That more closely resembles the day of God's defeat. What benefit does that have?
“Which of the two do you want me to release to you?” They said, “Barabbas!” — Matthew 27:21
They wanted someone released, and the throng had assembled. In Jesus' day, it was usual to release a prisoner on Passover to honor the Jews' freedom from slavery in Egypt.
Pilate was an experienced politician. As a result, he offered the mob a choice between the One who had raised Lazarus from the dead and the One whose sword had likely already taken many lives. The decision appeared simple. But the murderer Barabbas was the choice of the populace.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. — Proverbs 17:17
As he awaited execution in a Roman dungeon, even Paul, who was aware of the truth of Christ's presence, needed friends. He yearned for human interaction and company. He wanted some books and a bulky clothing. These were only available to him through pals.
Lord, grant us the ability to help those who are in need.
Bring the cloak . . . and the books, especially the parchments. — 2 Timothy 4:13
In a Roman jail, the apostle Paul sat by himself as he considered his last few weeks on earth. He must have felt his bones penetrate when he penned a letter to his buddy Timothy (4:21), pleading with him to visit before winter. He instructed Timothy to bring the scrolls, especially the parchments, and to bring a cloak to protect him from the biting chill.
I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. — John 17:4
"Has the Master's task been completed? Was not His most difficult duty still to come? He hadn't yet experienced the terrible hour of death. So why did He claim that His job was finished? Because He was aware that the moment the will is offered, the conflict is resolved. Our Father offers us a cup to drink, and it is a cup of the will. Once the heart has accepted it, draining it with the lips is simple. "The act is simple after the choice."
Yes, that is the area of conflict. If, like Jesus, we enjoy carrying out the Father's plan, then we will gladly and unhesitatingly do the task He gives us, regardless of the cost to ourselves.
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! — Matthew 21:9
One could have anticipated seeing Jesus the King ride into Jerusalem on a powerful stallion on that first Palm Sunday. But He went with a humble donkey instead. He had to first come as a Savior to die before He could come as a King to rule. Jesus displayed stark contrasts throughout His whole existence on earth, demonstrating both His true humanity and His complete deity.
Christ nourished the needy as God despite his human hunger. He was exhausted, yet He is our comfort. Despite having paid tribute, He is the King. He was referred to as the devil, yet He drove out demons. He prayed, but He still answers prayers. He sobbed, and He wipes away our tears. He redeems sinners after having been sold for 30 pieces of silver. He is the Good Shepherd even though He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. By giving His life, He also defeated death.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him. — Psalm 37:7
God sometimes seems to have delayed things for us. We pray constantly about something that is very important, yet nothing changes. Nothing!
I have no doubt Hannah felt that way. She prayed to God for a child. In her day, being childless considered a curse. Even worse, she was cruelly mocked by her husband's second wife. Hannah yearned fervently to have a child with her husband. She prayed out of intense suffering and resentment. But she was unable to get pregnant year after year.
As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill. — Daniel 1:17
Try to put yourself in Daniel's shoes. A Jewish kid has been told by the king what to eat and drink. But there's a catch: According to God, the food on the king's menu is forbidden. Would you be able to withstand pressure like that?
Many people don't believe teenagers have what it takes to stand up for what's right in cases like these or others where doing so would be costly. Parents frequently believe that adolescence is only a phase to go through. But rather than focusing on the challenges kids will face, we should consider the chances we have to inspire them to act morally.
I believe that Daniel, the young man who was pushed to oppose the king in the name of God, must have had role models who taught him to make moral decisions. And that was evident because he brazenly flouted the king's laws.
Many teenagers share Daniel's intellect and passion for God. Instead of having a prejudiced or unfavorable viewpoint toward the younger generation, they require leadership and encouragement. Encourage the teenagers you know to embody Daniel's bravery.
They are without excuse. — Romans 1:20
We cannot own the forgiveness unless we are ready to own the sin. God does not tolerate justifications.
Making an explanation for your sin will not make it go away. My sin, O Lord, disobeys Your Word and disgraces Your holy name; I will not rationalize wrongdoing; all I claim is Christ's blood.
