I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily. — Colossians 1:29

Are you attempting to live and work without giving in a challenging environment? Are you giving it your all, but is that not enough? According to Colossians 1:29, our effectiveness comes from our reliance on the almighty power of God residing within us. Businessman John put it best by saying, "God helps me do better than I can!"

He'll treat you the same way.

We should take pride in what Christ accomplishes for us rather than what we do for Christ. Let me feel my hand in Thine, O Savior, as we walk side by side. Let me experience the delight of walking in Thy power, not mine.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. — 2 Timothy 4:7

The speed we establish along the way has a significant impact on how we finish the event. When writing histories of persons, Joseph Wittig suggested that we begin with their passing rather than their birth. We had nothing to do with how our lives started, but we had a lot to do with how they ended.

Paul was imprisoned in a Roman dungeon and facing execution when he penned 2 Timothy. He remarked, "I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand" (4:6). He could then affirm, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith" (v. 7).

Even if we got out to a slow start, struggled along the way, or started late in the Christian race, we can still finish it well. The key is to follow Christ till the very end.

The person who prioritizes God will experience lasting happiness. Simply live your life in front of your Lord, ascend to that higher, nobler plane, seek only His glory, and you will win His approval.

[Endeavor] to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. — Ephesians 4:3

Paul's exhortation to live in harmony does not imply that believers would agree on all matters. He does, however, encourage sincere attempts to "keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."

According to Ephesians 4:4-6, Christians are members of one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father. Debatable topics are less likely to cause division when this unity is accompanied by humility, kindness, longsuffering, and loving tolerance (v. 2).

The foundation for our interconnectedness is our oneness with Christ. Although we frequently feel the need to convince people of our position, we must accept the different opinions that our Christian brothers have to offer.

The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting; give me understanding, and I shall live. — Psalm 119:144

Jesus confronted His detractors by requesting if they had studied the Old Testament on numerous occasions when they questioned Him during His mission. For instance, Jesus questioned the Pharisees, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry?" when they accused Him of violating the Sabbath. (Mt. 12:3). Likewise, the Lord acted in Matthew 19:4, 21:16, and 22:31. Jesus demands that people base their decisions on the source of truth, which is the Bible.

Therefore, we must ask ourselves: Are we focusing on the proper sources?

A well-fed believer has a well-read Bible by his side. Learn more about God's Word since it contains the life-sustaining wisdom that only comes from God's own thought.

Jesus Christ . . . has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. — 2 Timothy 1:10

Our belief in Jesus Christ should have an impact on how we live and how we pass away.

God wants us to live joyfully and enthusiastically. In fact, Jesus stated in John 10:10 that He had come to give us abundant life. God "gives us richly all things to enjoy" (1 Timothy 6:17), according to Paul as well.

However, we are unable to deny the reality that our time on earth is limited. Therefore, it is wise to consider our impending death (Heb. 9:27).

For a believer, death signifies the completion of all suffering, lonesomeness, and grief, the removal of everything that has made this life anything less than bountiful, and the beginning of unfathomable blessing (Rev. 21:1-6). We can then scream, "O Death, where is your sting?" in response to that possibility. (1 Cor. 15:55).

Christ makes the difference between having hope and not having hope. When flesh and spirit separate, I put my trust in Him with my soul and my dust because the Christ we sing about has taken death's sting away for good.

You see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh . . . are called. — 1 Corinthians 1:26

To receive God's favor, one does not need to be intelligent. Furthermore, attaining salvation is not contingent upon one's capacity to comprehend a convoluted intellectual explanation of religious truth. Very few people could be saved if it were required!

Having faith is necessary to receive salvation. It involves trusting in God and accepting what He has said in His Word concerning His Son, Jesus Christ, and how His death on the cross and bodily resurrection atoned for our sins. It is putting all of your faith in Him to save you. According to John 1:12, "to those who believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God to as many as received Him."

According to the Bible, the gospel "is the power of God unto salvation for everyone who believes" (Rom. 1:16). Anyone can believe, regardless of education level, level of information, or level of ignorance. Nobody will ever be able to claim in front of God, "I'm not saved because I couldn't understand the gospel." The path has been clearly defined.

Salvation is obtained by believing in Christ. One night, a ruler approached Jesus to inquire about the path to light and salvation. The Master replied simply and truthfully, "Ye must be born again."

The whole assembly . . . made booths . . . . And there was very great gladness. — Nehemiah 8:17

As His people observed the Feast of Tabernacles, the Lord must have been glad of His people. As they made their way to Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Israelites conversed and joked with one another. They built booths out of tree branches and camped there for a week. They joyfully and joyfully gave gifts in the temple as a thanksgiving offering (Dt. 16:13–15; Neh. 8:17).

This attitude permeated the first-century Christians' celebration of the Lord's Day. According to historians, those joyful gatherings gave pagans who were persecuting Christians a reason to charge believers with intoxication. They had a positive attitude because they constantly reminded themselves that every Sunday was a celebration of Christ's resurrection.

Let's make today a joyful occasion for celebration!

Be angry, and do not sin. — Ephesians 4:26

Sinful rage is firmly forbade in the Bible because to how harmful it is. But when the Holy Spirit is in charge, wrath may reveal and restrain evil. When Jesus hurled the money changers out of the temple (Mt. 21:12–13), you couldn't help but notice the thunder of God's wrath in the Old Testament as well as the fire in His eyes. There will be times when being angry at sin is a Christlike action if we are growing to be like Christ.

Being angry when you are angry at sin is not a sin. May we have the inner grace to make the decision that Jesus would have made if He had been in our position.

The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. — Luke 19:10

What is God's attitude toward those who are lost? Jesus narrated the parable of the shepherd who abandoned his flock of 99 sheep and ventured into the wilderness in order to find a stray sheep in Luke 15. He also related the story of a father who prayed earnestly for the return of his prodigal son while he waited and watched with a troubled heart.

Those tales show the heavenly Father's character. God made the most expensive offering He was able to because He was so concerned about the lost human race. He saved lost sinners by sending His Son into the world to die on the cross. And according to Jesus, "there is joy in the presence of the angels of God" whenever a sin-abducted soul is discovered and returned to the Father's household (Lk. 15:10).

Have you caused ecstasy in heaven?

We learn that we were the ones who were lost when we find Christ. The Lord moved my spirit to seek Him, seeking me, as a result of my seeking Him.
True Savior, It was not I who found; rather, It was Thee who found me.

He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. — John 10:3

Some people want God to resemble an elevated counseling center. But often, when our eyesight is poor and we can't see clearly, we need more than just sound advice—we need the Good Shepherd to guide us (John 10:3, 11).

We'll have all the direction we'll ever need as long as we follow Christ every day.

Follow Christ as your guide if you're looking for direction. Each new day brings us reason for celebration since God has kindly promised to look after us and guide us in a sovereign manner.

The rock badgers are a feeble folk, yet they make their homes in the crags. — Proverbs 30:26

If you have the intelligence of a badger, you'll recognize your areas of strength. The Bible exhorts us to "be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might" (Eph. 6:10). After being pursued by his foes, David cried out, "The Lord is my rock and my fortress" (2 Samuel 22:2).

Badgers are aware of their areas of strength. Do you?

If you stick near to the Rock of Ages, you have nothing to be afraid of. Fear not when difficulties arise because He is your dependable God and will protect you with His strong might. His assistance is constant from hour to hour.

Husbands, love your wives . . . . Let the wife see that she respects her husband. — Ephesians 5:25,33

Healthy unions are balanced. The excitement and spontaneity of continuing to fall in love with each other enrich the practical realities of everyday life.

A spouse who is realistic may be able to recognize that he is being insensitive to his wife's feelings and is taking her for granted. It may make a wife realize how damaging her criticisms are to her husband's self-respect.

But realism is insufficient. Romance, which is frequently abandoned after the wedding, prevents a marriage from getting boring. It can avert the kind of scenario shown in the cartoon with the elderly couple sitting on their front porch.

The husband is addressing Sarah and stating, "Sometimes, Sarah, when I think of how much you mean to me, I can hardly keep from telling you so."

In Ephesians 5, Paul exhorts readers to love one another in a way that emulates Christ's selfless dedication to His church. It's also a loving relationship that is kind and gentle.

Christ can assist you in finding a healthy balance between romanticism and realism in your relationship, whether you're just starting off dating or have been wed for a year or fifty. Continue to rely on His love and watch what it may accomplish for your marriage.

Marriage bonds have little value unless the interest is maintained. Despite the shortcomings of the couples, a marriage can still succeed; nevertheless, both parties must turn to God for support in order to maintain their love.

I am . . . not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. — 1 Corinthians 15:9

Adam accused Eve when God confronted him for eating from the forbidden tree (Gen. 3:12). Since then, people have made an effort to absolve themselves of accountability for their acts by blaming others or external factors.

The apostle Paul provided us with guidance on how to react. He acknowledged the terribleness of his sin and the kindness of God toward him (1 Cor. 15:9–10).

We are grateful to You, Lord, for endowing us with reason and the capacity to distinguish between good and evil, truth and lies. When we make the incorrect decisions, please help us to take responsibility for them and ask for Your pardon.

Making an explanation for your sin will not make it go away.

One thing I have desired of the Lord, . . . that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. — Psalm 27:4

However, there is one location we should always seek to be, and that is in the Lord's presence. David wished to "dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of [his] life" (Psalm 27:4).

The tabernacle, where God resided among the Israelites in the Holy of Holies, served as the psalmist's conception of the house of the Lord. David was certain that he was safe from his attackers when he was in God's house (v. 5). He was also reminded of God's dependable presence by the tabernacle. Today, each believer possesses the Holy Spirit of God (Jn. 14:16–17;

1 Cor. 6:19).

Consider it! We are now home to the same God who created us. May enjoying His presence more each day be our one and only goal.

To experience God's presence is our greatest privilege. Oh, how we love to sit at Jesus' feet as we live with Him in wonderful company!
We feel His presence and are His beloved children. Our communion is lovely.

There is none righteous, no, not one; . . . there is none who seeks after God. — Romans 3:10-11

From our vantage point, some wrongdoings may seem insignificant—for example, a "little white lie"—while other transgressions seem like enormous sins, such as the Holocaust under Hitler or the Gulag under Stalin.

God alone is able to judge whether sins are worse than others. But one thing is undeniable: According to Romans 3:23, "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Jesus Christ makes clear what full obedience to God looks like. Whether we are the culprits or the victims, we all cling helplessly to His divine pardon (v. 10).

God has given salvation for everyone who believes in His Son Jesus Christ, according to the beautiful message of the gospel (6:23; 8:1; 10:9–13).

Jesus is able to pardon all sins, no matter how serious they are. Even the darkest crimes are pardonable since Jesus died on the cross to fully atone for them.

We who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. — 1 Thessalonians 4:17

The funeral home director made the statement as I left the chapel following a memorial ceremony for a Christian friend, "You know, there's a big difference between the funerals of those who are Christians and those who are unsaved."

This man had attended several funerals and had been struck by the glaring contrast between the conduct of sincere believers and non-believers.

In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul writes, "If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.... Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air" (vv. 14–17). He had noticed that Christians find comfort in Paul's words.

Of course, when a death temporarily cuts us off from our loved ones, we grieve. But the reality of God's Word: Christians who die walk into the presence of the Lord Jesus Himself, and they will accompany Him when He returns to this world, tremendously eases the sadness and softly softens the heartache.

We who are waiting for the second coming of our Lord can gain consolation and courage in thinking about that joyful reunion. That is what really distinguishes things!

The anticipated return of the Son is the shining beacon of hope in the gathering darkness. The loving ones who have passed away and I will reunite soon, possibly today;
Oh, what a wonder to meet them there.
in the air, at that most beautiful union.

What I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. — Romans 7:15

None of us are perfect. We get up every morning with the intention of doing things correctly, yet before we know it, we have sinned. In the Bible, God's servants experienced the same thing. Great biblical personalities show us how difficult it is to achieve perfection. Even David, who God described as "a man after My own heart" (Acts 13:22), faltered (Psalm 32:5). The greatest missionary of all time, Paul, too acknowledged doing something he didn't want to do (Rom. 7:15).

Unfortunately, none of us are perfect. When we do, it is our duty to repent of our sins before God and accept His forgiveness. Even when the imperfection curse strikes, we can still grow and learn from it.

While conversion might happen instantly, developing Christlikeness takes time. Although it takes time, our goal is to become more like Jesus. We rely on the Holy Spirit to lead us until we are finally exalted.

Make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that . . . they may receive you into an everlasting home. — Luke 16:9

Some athletes and entertainers make enormous sums of money. I can see why they would accept whatever they could get, but I have to question about a society that spends so much money on entertainment when there are so many hungry and homeless people in the world.

Our financial attitudes and practices serve as a gauge of our spiritual well-being. It shows whether we are heedlessly focusing on the here and now or prudently looking to eternity.

Jesus related a parable about a money manager who was aware he was about to lose his job because he had mismanaged the company's resources. He then went to the debtors and gave them a receipt that said, "Paid in Full" for a partial payment.

This earned him their favor so that he wouldn't have to beg for assistance when he lost his work. Despite the fact that his employer was undoubtedly dissatisfied since he didn't get everything he was due, he praised the man for his cunning.

That tale serves as an example of the prudent use of money when considering eternity. The individuals who accept Christ will be our friends forever and will welcome us when we get in paradise. We can use our money today to aid in the spread of the gospel.

Money cannot buy pleasure or eternal existence. But it yields eternal returns when invested in Christ's cause.

The prudent use of money yields enduring benefits. Some people believe they have it all when wealth comes their way, but God's reckoning day will make their poverty very clear.

The Lord preserves the faithful. — Psalm 31:23

The castle in Edinburgh, Scotland, was constructed to offer its residents excellent security. Its enormous walls provided safety for the residents whenever invaders arrived and were strategically placed atop a high overlook. That massive fortress was once overrun by enemy forces, despite how impenetrable it appeared to be. This serves as a reminder that no amount of human endeavor can completely protect against tragedy.

David, on the other hand, had a great defense strategy. His rock and fortress was the Lord (Ps. 31:2-3). Despite the onslaught of all his enemies, he had confidence in God and felt safe.

Even after death, a person can still feel secure. Jesus cited David's words from Psalm 31:5 when He prayed, "Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit" (Lk. 23:46) before being crucified.

Even Christians who have a strong faith in the Lord their entire lives occasionally experience anxiety as they get close to passing away. The fear is alleviated by Psalm 31. They will be shielded from the horrors of death and welcomed back safely by the same God who is their fortress in this life.

God has our safety in his capable hands. According to the psalmist, "The Lord preserves the faithful" (v. 23). He will defend us both in life and in death, we can be sure of that!

Our stronghold in both life and death is the Lord. Under the wings of the divine, there is a sacred space that is secure for all the heirs of grace. Oh, may that space be my haven!

The later years of life are known as the "sunset years." But are things actually looking up? They are for certain people. However, for many others, even Christians, the golden years may be marred by resentment or hopelessness.

We must set the correct focus as our early-life objective in order to reduce this.

As I've studied happy seniors, I've come to realize that more than our emotions, our focus shapes who we are as a person. Early in life, a focus on thankfulness caused the clouds to part, allowing the sun to shine through.

Whatever your emotions may be, what are you concentrating on today? Is it a feeling of thanks to Jesus for the gift of eternal life? If so, as you age, you'll become sweeter.

The decisions you make today will determine who you are tomorrow. We can have a young heart and mind, still be compassionate to people, sing songs of praise to God while weeping, and develop our grace over the course of our lives.

I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail. — Luke 22:32

There is a "bounce test" for Christians as well. Their resilience after a setback is a good indicator of the depth of their faith. Even while failure hurts, it gives us a chance to reiterate our commitment to Christ in our hearts.

Jesus was aware that the apostle Peter was ready to fall victim to his own zeal and arrogance by denying Him. But the Lord recognized the disciple's contrition and healing after this tragic failure. He was essentially telling Peter, "Peter, you will rise up after your fall," when He said that He had prayed that his faith would not fail.

Don't give up if you've had a spiritual reversal. Christ is able to heal you. Even after a harsh fall, He can still utilize you. The "bounce" of your faith and God's pardon will give you the strength to continue.

The Lord might let us stumble in order to teach us to look up. Even though we frequently wander from You and disobey Your Word, You, our merciful, loving Lord, gently draw us back.

A man . . . pleaded with him, saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us." — Acts 16:9

The world's history was altered when the Macedonian man appeared to the apostle Paul in a vision. Paul changed his plans after hearing the man's pleading to "come over to Macedonia." He brought Lydia to the Lord in Macedonia, where the evangelism of the West was launched.

Sometimes, a cry for assistance is how that need is expressed. Other times, it hides a vehement hatred of the Savior and the gospel. His transgressions frequently serve as a sign of his desperation. The request is the identical no matter how many various ways he expresses that need: "Come over... and help us" (Acts 16:9).

Someone will eventually cry out to you for assistance. Will you respond right away?

Have you followed Christ's command to travel if you accepted His invitation to do so? till Your compelling love compels me to pray and obey Your leading, not considering the cost, stir me, stir me, Lord, till all of my heart is filled with compassion for those who are lost.

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. — Psalm 150:6

One of the most vital organs in your body are your lungs. They provide your blood with oxygen and remove water and carbon dioxide. Without breathing, you would pass out after a short while. Without oxygen, you could only endure for a short time.

The Lord holds "the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind" in His hand, according to the Bible (Job 12:10). He provides us with those 26,000 gifts each day so that we might give Him praise through the life they enable.

Have you given thanks to God for giving you life today?

Hold your breath when it's time to exhale a prayer of thanks. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Let the voices that God has given joyful praises to Him rise, and let all that breathe worship Jehovah.

The things sent from you [were] well pleasing to God. — Philippians 4:18

The apostle Paul wrote a letter of gratitude to the Philippi Christians. He wished to express his gratitude to them because they were the only church to have given him financial support for his missionary journey (Phil. 4:15). But he went beyond. He specifically mentioned to them the benefit of their assistance. Paul helped the people connect with people and places they could never travel to. They provided for Paul's needs (v. 16). Their contributions produced spiritual fruit (v. 17). They made God happy (v. 18). They also had the assurance that God would provide for them (v. 19).

Thank you cards are useful both ways. They aid in both the sender's ability to show gratitude and the recipient's understanding of what was done to help. It makes a fantastic pairing.

Do you know anyone who deserves a thank-you note?

A supportive phrase can mean the difference between giving up and continuing. If someone has shown you love, stop and think about what the Lord has done through them. Then, praise them for their loyal actions and the rewards they have received.

It is expedient for us that one man should die for the people. — John 11:50

Good people were released in both situations because the organization required a scapegoat. Even though many people contributed, they concentrated the blame on one individual.

What occurred to Jesus was that. Caiaphas, the high priest, made this statement without fully understanding the implications of what he had stated. He believed it would deliver the people from the cruel Romans (Jn. 11:47–50). He was unaware that Jesus was fulfilling the Old Testament image of the two goats—one a sacrifice for sin, the other a scapegoat that symbolically bore their sins away (Lev. 16)—bearing the guilt and penalty for the sins of the world.

We deserve to die forever. How appreciative we can be that God made Jesus the victim of our sin.

Prepare to meet your God. — Amos 4:12

There are deadlines that we must all meet! Tax returns must be filed, licenses must be renewed, and the list goes on.

But there is one deadline that we all must meet. According to the Bible, "it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Heb. 9:27) is what happens next.

Everyone will pass away, save those who have believed and are still alive when Jesus comes (1 Thess 4:16-17). And everyone who has ever lived shall stand before God for judgment. What an idiot it would be to ignore the preparation required for this inevitable accounting!

Jesus related a parable in Luke 12 about a wealthy man who wanted to live out his days in comfort and pleasure, so he planned to construct larger barns to keep all of his earthly possessions. But suddenly God said, "You fool! Your soul will be wanted of you this evening (Lk. 12:20). His final deadline had come.

Awaiting your readiness is God. Do it right away if you haven't already accepted Christ as your personal Savior. Believe that He died on the cross to atone for your sins and that He rose again to defeat death. Please be saved by Him. After that, you'll feel confident facing life's final deadline!

Don't wait until the eleventh hour to turn to God—you could pass away at ten! Death is definite, life is unsure; sin is the cause, and Christ is the remedy.

Out of weakness [they] were made strong. — Hebrews 11:34

It is possible to change what we perceive to be negative aspects of our life into positive ones, and vice versa. That applied to the apostle Paul, whose "thorn in the flesh" provided a chance for God's might to be revealed in his weakness (2 Corinthians 12:7-9).

Are you being held back by a weakness? Is it physical or social shyness? Pray for God to use it as a strength for His honor.

God's unfathomable might is shown by our finite capacity. How odd, yet completely accurate, is the phrase "inadequate but mighty"?
The Father's job will be done by weak people who have been empowered.

You shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. — Acts 1:8

When it comes to missions, there are two types of people: those who need to hear about Christ and those who need to hear it shared.

Although I continue to have a high regard for missionaries and still think that God calls both men and women to serve as missionaries in foreign countries, my perception of them has evolved.

Every Christian contributes to Christ's global mission. Acts 1 records what Jesus said to His disciples; it also pertains to us. We must speak and live as His witnesses in order for others to praise Him when they hear our message and see our faith in action.

Being a missionary is what we are called to do; it is not an option.

You cannot avoid your obligation when it comes to missions. Wherever I am, Lord, I will spread the word about You. Whether I'm at home or abroad.
