We should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age. — Titus 2:12

Do you always worry that you'll fall short of God's expectations for you? that you're absorbed with the knickknacks of this fleeting world? When you could be flying, are you "living in the barnyard"?

Really, do you want to fly? Do you aspire to rise above the petty, pointless mud of the barnyard?

You may! Get to work on the assignments the Lord has for you and cast off the sin and earthly burdens that are weighing you down (Heb. 12:1). We can only discover the fulfilment God desires for each of us in Christ.

As you wait for Jesus' return, keep in mind that He came to free you and give you wings (Ti. 2:11–13).

Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; and where there is no talebearer, strife ceases. — Proverbs 26:20

A fire must be put out by removing one of the components necessary for combustion. For instance, one strategy used to put out a forest fire is to remove the source of the flames. From a line that has been cleared in front of the moving flames, a controlled backfire is started. There is no wood left to burn when the two fires collide.

According to the Bible, "the fire goes out" when there isn't enough wood (Prov. 26:20). This refers to putting out a fire that is significantly more destructive than physical element combustion. The hatred and pain that individuals who have been wounded by the heat of an irresponsible tongue have experienced are the fire of an irresponsible mouth as well. What severe and long-lasting harm the tongue can cause to others!

Backbiting and slander have had a negative impact on families, friendships, and individuals for the rest of their lives.

How important it is for God's people to stop using careless language in discussion! Many of the fires that destroy relationships might be avoided as a result.

We can put out the destructive fires of slander and gossip by giving our tongues up to the Lord Jesus, who alone has the power to govern them.

It is preferable to have a biting tongue than not. How many flames have ravaged the countryside, leaving an unsightly scar?

However, the tongue is by far the worst of the burning flames.

Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. — John 8:43

Everyone is talking, studying, and practising communication.

More than just effective speaking, good communication also calls for effective listening.

As we see in today's Scripture, Jesus, who was a superb communicator, was frequently misunderstood. He spoke the truth plainly, yet His listeners misunderstood and rejected what He was saying. Why can't you grasp what I'm saying? He interrogated them. Because you are unable to listen to My speech, He answered His own question (John 8:43). Why couldn't they listen better? They didn't want to hear the truth, not because Jesus didn't communicate well. Why didn't they, then? because it forced them to acknowledge the need for change.

Let's constantly make it a point to communicate with God effectively.

If our lives are cluttered with earthly static, it can be difficult to hear what heaven has to say. Hearing God each time He calls means having a heavenly fellowship; pay attention to His message and respond, "God's will be mine."

Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. — James 2:10

It's crucial for jurors to be impartial in the American legal system. They cannot have made up their minds before entering the courtroom. Always keep in mind that a person is presumed innocent unless and unless they are proven guilty.

Knowing that guilt is not presumed but rather requires proof is consoling, even for people who never anticipate finding themselves in trouble with the law.

However, this justice system is different from the one God designed for mankind. Before we ever enter His tribunal, we have already been found guilty! That is true even though it may not seem fair. It is essential to God's complete holiness.

When someone is proven guilty in court, they are sentenced to punishment.

But the great thing about God's court is that we are given mercy when we acknowledge our wrongdoing! We all have a death sentence that will last forever because of our sins. However, only those who deny their sin and reject God's offer of salvation through Jesus Christ receive the punishment for it.

We are guilty at this point. But by the blood of Jesus Christ, we can receive forgiveness and be absolved of our guilt. That is the mercy of God!

Although His mercy saves us, God's justice condemns us. Because Jesus died on the cross, God's forgiveness is so complete and undeserved; it is extended to every sinner who really yearns to be reconciled.
