Desire . . . gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. — James 1:15

The woman gave the Tempter a rundown of the regulations. Every tree in the garden had fruit that she and her husband could eat, with the exception of the unique tree in the middle. She claimed that even touching it would result in death.

I can picture Satan cocking his head back and mockingly chuckling as he says, "You will not surely die" (Gen. 3:4). After that, he said that God was withholding something positive from her (v. 5).

The enemy has employed that tactic repeatedly for countless years. As long as he can convince you to doubt the one sin that stands between you and God, he doesn't care if you accept the authority of the Bible as a whole.

We are assured that we won't definitely pass away.

That is a common theme in contemporary books. Despite living in disobedience to God, the hero and heroine escape punishment. In television shows and motion pictures, characters disobey God's moral precepts but go on to have happy endings.

Will you choose to heed God's warning or will you choose to trust Satan's lie in the current temptation you are experiencing?

Sin has an unpleasant aftertaste. How has sin affected those whose lives I am familiar with?
What harm has it done me to disobey God?
Have I ever known God's mercy? (1 Jn. 1:9-10).
