When you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. — Romans 6:20

All prisons appear undesirable from the outside. On the inside, though, some prisons rank higher than others.

A good library, a smoke-free atmosphere, and ongoing education are offered in some prisons.

That made me consider how we are related to Christ. To an outsider, it would appear to be a type of incarceration.  Obedience to the faith may appear constricting to a non-believer. But on the inside, submission to God actually unlocks the gate to a completely new realm of liberties.

Paul was acquainted with a cell's interior. He also understood that where we spend our time does not decide whether we are slaves to sin or to God.

It's a heart-related issue. Paul understood that being enslaved to sin results in an ever-increasing craving for things that displease God. God's slavery produces an ever-increasing longing for goodness, love, and gratitude for unregrettable liberties.

The secret to freedom is submission to God. We were held captive by our sin and ruled by our wicked behaviour, but the Saviour set us free so that we could live a life of service to Him.
