The county fair was an interesting study in opposites. A tough cowboy yelled, swore, and thrashed his cattle as he brought them into the corral. The animals were difficult to control and had wild eyes.

The prophet Hosea utilised agricultural metaphors to explain how the Lord guides His people. He said that God "drew them with gentle cords, with bands of love" to bring Israel out of captivity in Egypt (Hos. 11:4). From Egypt, God had heard their wretched screams. He led them tenderly to the location of His blessing, much like a farm girl might carry her favourite calf or colt. However, that favourable situation was about to alter.

He was going to deliver Israel into the hands of people who would harass them and treat them harshly because of their stubborn refusal to obey the Lord.

Although the path we are taking is frequently challenging, His guidance is gentle. We shall be satisfied as long as we let the Spirit's gentle voice apply God's Word to our hearts.

God never takes you in a direction where His grace cannot keep you. The future is in God's hands.

day by day, with grace sufficient;

No matter what, He gently leads.

If only we will let Him rule.
