Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. — James 2:10

It's crucial for jurors to be impartial in the American legal system. They cannot have made up their minds before entering the courtroom. Always keep in mind that a person is presumed innocent unless and unless they are proven guilty.

Knowing that guilt is not presumed but rather requires proof is consoling, even for people who never anticipate finding themselves in trouble with the law.

However, this justice system is different from the one God designed for mankind. Before we ever enter His tribunal, we have already been found guilty! That is true even though it may not seem fair. It is essential to God's complete holiness.

When someone is proven guilty in court, they are sentenced to punishment.

But the great thing about God's court is that we are given mercy when we acknowledge our wrongdoing! We all have a death sentence that will last forever because of our sins. However, only those who deny their sin and reject God's offer of salvation through Jesus Christ receive the punishment for it.

We are guilty at this point. But by the blood of Jesus Christ, we can receive forgiveness and be absolved of our guilt. That is the mercy of God!

Although His mercy saves us, God's justice condemns us. Because Jesus died on the cross, God's forgiveness is so complete and undeserved; it is extended to every sinner who really yearns to be reconciled.
