Does this imply that we who are going to paradise shouldn't care about the here and now? No. Jesus told us to pray, "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" (Mt. 6:10), but we can't accomplish that while ignoring the needs and ills of the world. Instead, we should be ready to put Paul's advice into practise: "As we have opportunity, let us do good to all" (Galatians 6:10).
According to Eph 2:8, we are saved by grace via faith, yet our faith is meant to result in "good works" (v. 10). Let's emulate those Christians in Victorian times. And may we follow in the footsteps of Christ, "who went about doing good" (Acts 10:38).
A functional faith is one that is active. In order to demonstrate the divinity of the doctrine, let our actions and words reflect the holy gospel that we profess.
