Have mercy upon me, O God. — Psalm 51:1

What we really do with the previous year is more significant than what we plan to do in the upcoming year. Because of this, I advise that we focus on our previous year's resolutions rather than making new ones this year.

Sound perplexing? What I mean is this. We must resolve any outstanding issues from the previous year before making plans for our life in the coming year and for serving God. Before we start making new goals, we should address unconfessed sin.

So, as the old year draws to a close, try taking some time away from everyone else to connect with God.

Bring a Bible, a pen, and some blank paper with you. Start by reading and reflecting on Psalm 51, David's prayer of confession. Then list any sin you can recall from the previous year that you still need to confess to God. Next, make an atonement request to God, like David did. Then take that piece of paper, rip it into pieces, and toss it away as a gentle reminder that He will wipe away your sins (v.1).

You can now begin the new year with a clear conscience. Anything else you could resolve to do would be inferior to it.

Before we can put our sins behind us, we must address them. Lord, we thank You that we can start over when we fail.

If we humbly own our sin, we will turn and follow You.

Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. — Revelation 20:15

There are other records preserved in addition to that. One more is being guarded by the all-knowing, all-present God. All the dead will eventually appear before the Creator-Judge. Then, those gathered in His mighty presence will be "judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books" (Rev. 20:12), with His books being opened.

The Book of Life, however, will also be opened on that day. Only those people's names are recorded in that Book who have placed their faith in Jesus as their Saviour. Anyone who is not found listed in the Book of Life will be tossed into the lake of fire, according to verse 15 of the verse. Is that book credited to you?

Either our own or Christ's efforts will determine how each of us is assessed. The work of my hands cannot satisfy the requirements of Thy law; all atonement for sin is insufficient; only Thou and Thou Alone can save.

God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil. — Ecclesiastes 12:14

People that seek to maintain historical spirit are doing godlike work. They serve as a reminder that everything matters. Everything!

But we tend to overlook that. We begin to question whether anything truly counts as a result of our ageing bodies, shifting circumstances, and various losses. If we ultimately fail, what is the point?

Solomon pondered that as well. He initially believed that everything was supposed to be forgotten and rendered useless. However, he realised that everything has meaning, whether for good or for bad, when he remembered his Creator. Every action and intention will be judged by God (Eccl. 12:14).

The final advice given by Solomon was to "fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" (v.13 KJV).

Obeying God is the only way to attain fulfilment.

For good or for ill, everything in life has eternal meaning. God sits on His throne as Sovereign, judging both the big and the small. Those who would mock His rule will perish beneath His rod.

Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. — 2 Corinthians 5:17

An old factory was being sold by a businessman. Months of vacancy had caused the structure to deteriorate severely. Numerous windows had been damaged, and several doors had been forced open. There was trash all over.

As fruitless as cleaning up an old factory and replacing the windows just before the wrecking ball starts to move, so are our attempts to gain redemption. Even the best of our deeds cannot appease a holy God's righteous requirements and secure our salvation. We require a radical transformation.

God wants more from us than our meagre moral efforts when it comes to salvation. He seeks our faith in His cherished Son. God creates a new world when we believe in and repent of our sins (2 Corinthians 5:17).

He doesn't want the outdated structure. He wants to use the location and our approval to create a new life, which only He is capable of doing.

Salvation is gaining a new life, not turning over a new leaf. Even with your greatest efforts, you will never be able to fully realise what Christ desires to do within you.

He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." — 2 Corinthians 12:9

Weakness makes us more approachable and makes room for God's strength to operate in our lives. That might be our most valuable asset.

We may encounter challenges that beyond our capacity, but never God's. Weak people will be given authority as part of the Lord's great task. How bizarre, yet entirely true, that this statement is.

The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch. — Acts 11:26

The term "Christians" used in the early church to refer to the disciples literally means "those belonging to Christ." It was evident how much they cherished and served the Lord. How much more should we aspire to be like our Lord and Saviour if a brilliant pianist can accept himself for who and what he is and devote his entire life to the improvement of his craft? We ought to be able to answer, "What else can we be?" with the renowned musician.

Every child of God should develop in the image of God's Son. Oh, to be as You! This is my continual desire and prayer, wonderful Redeemer; I would gladly give up all the things this world has to offer, Jesus, in order to don Thy flawless likeness.

There is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. — Luke 2:11

Christians have differing perspectives on Christmas. Some would like to give up and pass it over to department stores. Others hope to save it and utilise it to make a significant point about Jesus' birth to a weary secular society.

Anyone who bothers to look or listen during the Christmas season must ponder the purpose of all the commotion.

Naturally, something did take place. The entire world needs to know about it. God has come to earth. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to reveal God and to die in place of our sins (Jn. 1:1–14).

The greatest news ever, indeed. God merged with humanity in order for us to have eternal life with Him. Happy Holidays!

Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. — Luke 2:10

The angel who told the shepherds that Jesus was born declared that he had come to bring them "good tidings of great joy" (Lk. 2:10). Today, a lot of people hear the phrases "great joy" but don't really comprehend them. As they deck out their houses, shop at cheery shops, attend festive gatherings, and exchange gifts with their loved ones, they enjoy the holiday season. But after the first thrill wears off, they are left feeling drained and joyless.

Others absolutely detest the current season. Many people lack the resources to buy presents or decorate. Some people don't have any buddies to celebrate with. In fact, the joyous environment surrounding them makes them feel more depressed.

Both groups have the issue of identifying the "great joy" of which the angel spoke in the wrong way. It is not located in the frivolous fun, but rather in the deeper significance of the season. God took on human form when Jesus was born in order to forgive us of our sins and give us the hope of an eternal life in heaven. The actual cause of happiness is that. The shepherds returned to their work amid the chilly evenings and solitude, yet they were still "glorifying and praising God" (v. 20).

Indeed, "good tidings of great joy... to all people" (v.10) is what Christmas is truly about.

Jesus makes Christmas joyful. The triumph of the sky is yours to join when you joyfully announce, with the celestial hosts, "Christ is born in Bethlehem."

Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. — Psalm 116:15

Yet it was the holiday season. the season of flashing lights, upbeat music, and celebrations of Jesus' birth. It was finally time for peace on earth, children's enthusiasm, and expectation.

It would appear that now was not the time to consider making funeral plans or saying farewell. How is it that this is the correct moment?

Because it was God's time, it was the appropriate moment.

God never makes mistakes, thus it was the appropriate moment.

Even in death, God's timing is impeccable. He is not in the body, but he is with the Lord, looking at his Saviour, the Christ, whom he loved.

Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God. — Deuteronomy 8:11

Christmas celebrations centre on the infant sleeping in a manger and the "little town of Bethlehem" in its artwork, music, and spectacle. Who among us can't close our eyes and picture our own child in the cot, sound asleep? These priceless manifestations of the birth of Jesus fill us with joy.

However, we cannot limit our understanding of Christ to a newborn in a manger. We don't salute a sleeping youngster with a bow. With the crucified, risen, and exalted Christ, we have a dynamic, living relationship!

The ark of the covenant, the physical representation of God's presence and power, had long been abandoned in a far-off village, according to First Samuel 7 (v. 2).

Israel's people had not recently revered the All-Powerful God. He was abandoned and forgotten.

How were they able to do that? However, a lot of us exhibit the same memory slip. Do we only consider Jesus during the holiday season? Do we only imagine the King of all creation as a newborn baby in swaddling clothes? Consequently, we continue to overlook the genuine meaning of Christmas!

Jesus cannot remain in a nativity scene. He yearns for an ongoing, dynamic connection with us. Let us introduce Christ into our lives in the same way that Israel did when they took the ark out of hiding and into normal life.

Something must be wrong on the inside if Christ is maintained on the exterior. We shall understand why Christmas brings you and I such delight when we look past the manger to the cross of Calvary.

[Have] compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted. — 1 Peter 3:8

Being referred to as "The Beautiful Christian" is an even higher honour. In contrast to everyone else, Christians should be the most "beautiful people." Gentleness, compassion, love, tenderheartedness, and civility are to characterise us (1 Peter 3:4, 8). Because we want peace (v. 11), repay blessing for evil (v. 9), and are prepared to "suffer for righteousness' sake" (v. 14), we are to be "beautiful" (v. 9).

Do others who look at you perceive a mirror of Christ's love? Could you possibly be described as a "beautiful Christian" because of your faithfulness?

The most stunning individuals represent Christ. Everyone will be able to tell that we serve God above by the fact that His Spirit resides inside of our hearts and infuses us with His love.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. — Psalm 95:6

Thirty years of Daytona Beach residents claimed they had never witnessed anything like that. A peaceful sea was suddenly broken by a rogue wave, 27 miles long, 18 feet high, and 250 feet wide. The enormous wave, which was apparently caused by an underwater landslide, heaped yachts and cars on top of one another along a well-traveled beach road in Florida.

This peculiar event in Daytona is a glimpse of life. The unexpected cannot be avoided. The unanticipated cannot be predicted. We are surrounded by potential disasters at every step. We won't feel any more secure by worrying about such things.

The psalmist discovered the secret to finding delight in an unreliable environment. He found comfort in the knowledge that God's people are the sheep of His pasture because he recognised what a shepherd's heart is like (Ps. 95:7). He holds the oceans, the mountains, the valleys, and the dry land (vv. 4-5). He carefully watches over every hill and wave.

Anxiety seems to be a result of unpredictability. However, the psalmist was pressed for time and had no time to fret. Instead, he decided to honour his Creator, who is always in charge. We have the same option.

Even though you have no influence over your environment, you do have power over your attitude. "Throughout all of my earthly days, whether it is sun, rain, or good,

Nothing sour should be able to silence my thankful cry of praise, O Lord.

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. — Psalm 90:12

Teach us to number our days (Psalm 90:12), which is translated as "number," literally means "to weigh" or "to measure." Each day must be weighed in the balance in order for it to tilt in a way that will honour God and benefit other people's lives.

If we are aware of how valuable each day is, we will make an effort to use it wisely. We must take advantage of every chance if we want to live regret-free lives and get great rewards in heaven (Eph. 5:15–16). Let us pray, "Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom," as the psalmist prayed, "that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Ps. 90:12).

Make each day count instead of counting the days. The hands of the clock of life are only wound once, and no one is able to predict precisely when they will stop, whether it is at night or in the morning.
