Beware that you do not forget the Lord your God. — Deuteronomy 8:11

Christmas celebrations centre on the infant sleeping in a manger and the "little town of Bethlehem" in its artwork, music, and spectacle. Who among us can't close our eyes and picture our own child in the cot, sound asleep? These priceless manifestations of the birth of Jesus fill us with joy.

However, we cannot limit our understanding of Christ to a newborn in a manger. We don't salute a sleeping youngster with a bow. With the crucified, risen, and exalted Christ, we have a dynamic, living relationship!

The ark of the covenant, the physical representation of God's presence and power, had long been abandoned in a far-off village, according to First Samuel 7 (v. 2).

Israel's people had not recently revered the All-Powerful God. He was abandoned and forgotten.

How were they able to do that? However, a lot of us exhibit the same memory slip. Do we only consider Jesus during the holiday season? Do we only imagine the King of all creation as a newborn baby in swaddling clothes? Consequently, we continue to overlook the genuine meaning of Christmas!

Jesus cannot remain in a nativity scene. He yearns for an ongoing, dynamic connection with us. Let us introduce Christ into our lives in the same way that Israel did when they took the ark out of hiding and into normal life.

Something must be wrong on the inside if Christ is maintained on the exterior. We shall understand why Christmas brings you and I such delight when we look past the manger to the cross of Calvary.
