Alesis's Story

Established in 1980, Alesis was built on cutting-edge semiconductor chip technology and recognized industrial designs that made professional studio recording equipment accessible to aspiring musicians and artists. Alesis unveiled the Midiverb, the first professional 16-bit effects processor under $1,000, with exceptional "bang for the buck" value. Alesis developed studio-quality drum machines (HR-16 and SR-16), synthesizers, studio monitors, and mixing consoles in the wake of the Midiverb.

With the release of the ADAT Multi-Channel Digital Tape Recorder in 1991, Alesis achieved unprecedented success. A studio would need to spend $50,000 before ADAT in order to purchase a multi-track digital recorder. With ADAT, the price dropped to $4,000, making digital recording virtually accessible to any home and project studio. Any artist or musician could now record records with professional quality thanks to new technology.
