Alvarez Acoustic Guitars

How do you pick the best guitar for you when there are so many brands available today?

Which guitar offers you the best combination of value and quality? Which guitar do you find yourself picking up the most?

That guitar is an Alvarez, in our opinion.

Instruments made by Alvarez are designed with your creativity in mind. They are intimately aware that your relationship with your guitar directly influences how much you want to play, how you may improve as a musician, and how the guitar you play affects how much you play and sparks your creativity.

One of the most rewarding blessings in life is the ability to create music, yet it can also be one of the most difficult and time-consuming. You are inspired by playing an instrument that you connect with. This serves as the cornerstone of our design strategy for our instruments.

They also realize that designing for a lifetime is necessary. Since they can last for decades and be passed down from one generation to the next, guitars are not consumable goods. Their methods for making guitars must adhere to this tradition. Every stage of their meticulous process has an impact on how their guitars are used, maintained, and valued, from the selection of woods and components to the precision of wood joints and seasoning. This is what motivates them, and it influences the design choices they make as well as their dedication to careful craftsmanship.

Continuous R&D

Commitment to value and quality is not always simple. It implies that they need to make wiser choices, learn more, and continue experimenting and discovering. They refer to it as "perpetual R&D."

As they grow, they stand by the decisions they make and point out those that are flawed so that guitarists using their guitars never encounter problems. Musicians must have faith in their instruments because they are essential to their craft, serve as voices and means of communication, and produce work that has the power to affect the listener's emotions. The most effective way to create music is using flexible and reliable tools.

For this reason, they meticulously research the sanding process, painstakingly test even the smallest components, properly cure their woods, R&D various paint and finish processes, invest in tooling and education, and conduct in-depth research into both production design and product design. Because they want to provide the best guitars possible at the best possible price. They produce them effectively so that as many gamers as possible can own them while still incorporating the design and quality they and you need.

Only then will they be able to offer instruments with stunning looks and fantastic sounds that will enrich our lives with music and inspire creativity for a lifetime.

YAIRI

meticulous R&D and a handmade approach.

In a world of mass-produced, quick items and globalization, it appears that more consumers are looking for handmade things. Products created with a more humane attitude and the expert ability of Artisans who are knowledgeable in their field and take the user into account at every stage of production. One such brand is Alvarez-Yairi, which produces bench-made guitars that are meticulously created by a modest and inspirational group of luthiers who have committed their lives to crafting guitars.

At Yairi, there are 24 luthiers; four of them are master luthiers who have sat at their workbench for up to 55 years. This depth of knowledge aids in separating Alvarez from other guitar manufacturers. They are renowned for having countless piles of old, naturally seasoned wood. The Yairi's player experience and construction quality give quality that is infrequently available for bench-made instruments at such reasonable price points.

Architecture with a bracing tone

Genre- and model-specific bracing designs are one of Alvarez's distinctive selling points across the board. Everything is specifically built for experience and purpose, from Yairi to Regent Series.

The pre-war bracing on their bluegrass and blues guitars produces vintage tones with a more contemporary dynamic range. Their bigger body guitars, such Baritones and Jumbos, have our FST2 forward-shifted system installed, while their mid-sized and smaller body guitars have their MST1 installed. This allows the smaller and mid-sized body sizes to produce more energy, which results in more projection.

They refer to the tone bars in each of their bracing systems as "asymmetric tone bars." Here, the tone bars on the bottom braces are scalloped in opposition to one another. One emphasizes the midrange frequencies, the other the bass and treble, which, in their opinion, improves the separation and harmony between all six strings.

Forward-shifted type 2 (FST2)

The term "forward-shifted" describes a location where the X brace's axis is situated nearer the soundhole than many conventional placements. Placing the X forward expands the soundboard area around and behind the bridge. When combined with fine scalloping, this increased vibration can be captured and expressed by the tone bars, which affects volume and openness, especially in the bass frequencies.

Middle-shifted type 1 (MST1)

Because the axis of the X is situated halfway between their forward location and some of their other places for pre-war era bracing patterns, they refer to it as "Middle Shifted." Moving the bracing back gave them  the opportunity to make it lighter and avoid tying it to the top's lining, allowing them to once more produce the appropriate levels of energy while striking the ideal balance between strength and vibration. Mid-sized bodies benefit greatly from this bracing design, which also produces a little earthier, deeper tone than FST2.

Forward size 6, or FS6

Except for Yairi, most of their mid-size guitars now feature their newest bracing system, which is forward-shifted and uses less bracing material overall. The voicing has a similar character because of this system's homogeneity across the Dreadnought, Grand Auditorium, OM, and Parlor body sizes, but the individual tone is more directly influenced by the guitar's size and shape.

Finish

According to Alvarez, sanding and painting

It takes skill and attention to detail to get a finish that is truly clear, thin, and shiny. When they use the word "clear," they mean that their gloss clear finish is as devoid of "inter-coat" scratching as is humanly possible. Any guitar builder will attest to how difficult this is and how much attention to detail is needed, especially during the sanding procedures, to obtain such a high-end polish.

There is often circular scratching between the coatings in ordinary guitars. This is typically because each layer of paint was aggressively sanded back before the next one was applied. While employing huge industrial sanding machines is quicker, a near-perfect surface cannot be obtained. As a result, at Alvarez, they painstakingly construct their finish via each layer while slowing down the process in order to achieve real "clearness" as the final product. Their finish has a gorgeous appearance and is also quite thin, allowing the soundbox to resonate slightly more.

Do it right if you're going to do it.

They only release models when they are confident that they have created them to the best of their knowledge at any particular time, regardless of whether it involves a change to their bracing or the design of their Ukulele line. Their Cadiz Series is a prime illustration of this.

As part of their classical and flamenco series, they made multiple trips to Andaluca to study voicing and construction in the region that produces classical and flamenco guitars. Before beginning any manufacturing, they met with luthiers and spoke with local musicians to understand the subtleties of flamenco design and built prototype parts there. Because their guitars contain a treble bar, the Cadiz bracing design makes a small tribute to Jose Ramirez III's asymmetric architecture. This will assist them produce very round, bell-like trebles on their first three strings by slightly stiffening the top's treble side. They use somewhat thinner braces on the bass side of the top to keep the bass side light, giving the player a highly wide, clear, and powerful bass response.

They think a significant component of "Why Alvarez" when it comes to picking a guitar is this attention to detail, an almost obsessional commitment.

Detail is the soul of quality

They think that an ongoing R&D culture includes self-reflection as they advance and gain new knowledge, in addition to innovation. Every component of their guitars has been designed, scrutinized, or selected. Their complex curve, standard neck profile, for instance, has changed as their production capabilities have become more sophisticated.

In order to identify the neck profile that is, in their opinion, most comfortable in various fretting positions and that balances playing at the low, medium, or high end of the fretboard, numerous neck designs have been developed. With the player in mind, everything is taken into account.

Bi-level and directly connected bridges

Mr. Yairi created the Direct Coupled Bridge in the 1980s. He intended to increase the guitar's string tension and transfer the vibration produced at the bridge to the top. The bridge's configuration lowers the bridge pins relative to the saddle, resulting in a more acute string angle and greater downforce on the saddle—both of which heighten string tension. This significantly affects reaction and projection. No matter how soft you play, Alvarez always responds right away, which is something you'll notice.

A one-piece bi-level bridge, based on Yairi's direct coupled design, is installed on all Alvarez guitars. Additionally, this increases string tension and enhances response. Together with the Alvarez emblem, Alvarez bi-level bridges have become a part of DNA and help to instantly identify their guitars.

Maintain design by being stable.

It doesn't matter how much effort is put into building a guitar if it is unstable over the course of its existence, especially in the first year or two when the woods are still acclimating to various surroundings and climatic difficulties.
