The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs. — Romans 8:16-17

But when we place our faith in Christ for salvation, we do more than just agree to something. By making us His children by adoption and new birth, God establishes a legally binding connection with us (1 Peter 1:23; Ephesians 1:5). We are forever heirs of an estate set up in heaven for us because of these tight family ties (1 Peter 1:4).

If one of the parties breaks his word, the contract might be broken. For our benefit, our eternal future is determined by more than just a contract we have with God.

Instead, it is because of our familial connection to Him that we are secure. The parent's commitment is not negated if the child is late for supper. The parent begins looking for the kid. Failure of one person does not end the relationship.

How appreciative we can be that our relationship with God via Christ is the foundation of eternal existence.

We are God's heirs by birthright rather than just by agreement. We have put our faith in Christ, and because of that, He will constantly cling to us. We are members of God's family, and we are children of the King.
