The tax collector . . . beat his breast, saying, “God, be merciful to me a sinner!" — Luke 18:13

No one will ever be delivered as long as they rationalize their wicked actions. Only once he acknowledges, "I am a sinner and cannot save myself," will the Lord deliver him from sin and its terrible repercussions. In Luke 18, the arrogant and boastful Pharisee was forgotten. Nevertheless, the tax collector admitted his wrongdoing and "went down to his house justified" (v. 14).

Admit your sin and accept the Lord Jesus as your Savior, if you have never done so before. Keep in mind that only sinners can be saved.

The worst sinner can become the best saint through the power of Jesus. Nothing but what I received has been given to me by grace since I began to believe; boasting is excluded, pride I abhor—I am merely a sinner redeemed by grace!
