Two of Jesus' disciples turned against Him the night before He was killed. When Judas betrayed Christ, He was confronted in the Garden by His adversaries (Lk. 22:47–48). And Peter repeatedly said he didn't even know the Lord (vv. 57–60).
However, there was a significant difference in what they did afterwards. Judas hanged himself (Mt. 27:5), whereas Peter sobbed painful tears of sorrow and was subsequently tenderly restored (v.62; Jn. 21:15-17).
The crucial factor after committing a sin is what we do next. What should we do after losing our temper and saying something hurtful to a member of our family? What should we do if a coworker is treated unfairly? What should we do if we realise we are thinking evil ideas all the time?
Making excuses, defending our wrong behaviour, blaming others, or ignoring God simply serves to compound the original sin.
The Holy Spirit may have shown up a sin in your life to you as you were reading this. If so, you have a decision to make: admit your sin and turn to God (1 John 1:9), or keep denying that you have a problem with it.
Don't add more sin to your previous transgression. Take it right away in fervent confession to the Lord. What you do next is what matters most!
