 Satan is the main speck inspector. The devil raised an eyebrow in response when the Lord drew his attention to Job's virtue. He smirked, "Does Job fear God for nothing?" (Job 1:9). He implied that Job was only good because God rewarded him for being good. Satan has such keen vision that he could see a speck that didn't exist. 

Fact-finders who look for fault are seldom trustworthy. The only person who has ever led a faultless life was the target of our Lord's opponents' attacks (Mt. 12:24; Lk. 7:34; Jn. 9:16). They were blind to the best because they were searching for the worse. 

Do we truly comprehend the evil of finding fault? It's a vicious behaviour pattern that harms both us and those around us.

According to Jesus, we must first remove the log from our own eyes. This implies that we must acknowledge and confess our sins. We won't be as ready to criticise people's flaws as we will be as we learn to see them through the eyes of love. 

Before you search for blemishes in other people, examine your own life. Lord, help me to understand my fellow human beings rather than to criticise them, and when the stone-throwing starts, remind me of all the faults I have committed.
