Some people who oppose Christianity might not be as hostile to Christ as they are to hypocrisy. Ironically, they haven't considered the fact that Christ Himself was the staunchest opponent of hypocrisy.
Our actions and words can convey contradictory messages. Jesus criticized the hypocritical teachers of the law in today's reading and admonished His students, "Do not do according to their works; for they say, but do not do" (Mt. 23:3).
God forbid that any adversary of Christ will be swayed by our thoughtless hypocrisy. Lord, please grant us wisdom as "preachers."
On Sundays, a hypocrite kneels in prayer; on Mondays, he preys on his neighbors. You can deceive the gullible public, act dishonestly, and cover up your slight meanness, but you can never deceive God!
