The Bible unequivocally demonstrates that a Christian's inner being is a battleground where the Holy Spirit's indwelling opposes sinful impulses. Sometimes wicked instincts triumph, but the main distinguishing factor between a sincere Christian and a pretender is how they approach sin.
The impostor Christian is very at ease in his immorality. However, the sinful person hates their sin, owns up to it, and wants to overcome it. According to Galatians 5:24, this is because "those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires." Until a Christian acknowledges and repudiates his sins, he cannot find peace. He consistently overcomes sin as he puts his trust in the Holy Spirit.
