Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another. — Ephesians 4:32

Read the brief letter that the apostle Paul wrote to Philemon, a prosperous citizen of Colosse, for a good illustration of how to improve relationships. Onesimus, a slave of Philemon who had stolen from him and gone to Rome, is the subject. Onesimus encountered Paul there, who helped him come to a saving understanding of Jesus. Paul is pleading with Philemon in this letter to take Onesimus back, this time as a brother. It's a wonderful illustration of love in action.

Paul referred to Onesimus as a "son" (v. 10) and a "beloved brother" (v. 16) despite the fact that he deserved Philemon's punishment. He pledged to pay back the items Onesimus had taken.

Paul was skilled at mend relationships. Do we?

Relationships can be patched up with forgiveness. God of grace and God of goodness, teach me to always be kind, patient, and understanding with the Savior at the forefront of my thoughts.
