They came to the conclusion that life is too short to squander it on things that will not matter or be valuable in the long run, much like the inspired author of Psalm 39 (vv. 4-6).
Have we arrived at the same decision? Have we truly trusted the Lord, recognizing that only He can give our lives permanent meaning? Can we say, with the psalmist, "My hope is in You" as we anticipate a new year? (v.7).
Only God can save us from a life of pointless pursuits. Let's not wait for a near-death experience to persuade us of the critical significance of living life to the fullest.
What matters is how you live, not how long you live. I only have one life to give to Christ, and I cherish that life more and more with each passing year.
