We are not ignorant of [Satan's] devices. — 2 Corinthians 2:11

 Satan employs a variety of techniques to obstruct the Lord's work. Acts chapters 6 through 8 provide three examples of how Satan accomplishes his evil deeds through individuals and external factors.

1. The church is divided by the devil. "In those days... there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists" (Acts 6:1). A church's reputation in the community will suffer if it develops a reputation for quarrelling and backstabbing.

2. The enemy tries to take preachers and instructors' attention away from their primary goal of sharing the gospel. In response to pressure, the apostles felt compelled to "leave the Word of God and serve tables" (6:2).

Today, Satan uses a similar strategy by getting a pastor so engrossed in church activities that he has little time left over for prayer and Bible study.

3. Satan's goal is to exterminate God's people at all times. Stephen was crucified, and Saul "made havoc of the church" (8:3), according to Acts 7 and 8.

We must be aware of Satan's strategies and ready to fend off his assaults. We don't want to cause strife and distraction within the church. Let's instead fervently concentrate on Christ's plan for our life.

Recognise Satan's tactics to prevent the tragedy of sin. Satan may throw darts at me, but I want to dwell above the world because faith has heard the joyous song.

Recognise Satan's tactics to prevent the tragedy of sin. Satan's darts are thrown at me, yet I desire to live above the world;

Because faith has heard the jubilant song of the saints on higher ground.
