David had the power to overthrow Saul's family in retaliation for his attempts to have Saul killed. But for Jonathan's sake, he preferred to be kind to any still-living member of Saul's family. David extended him exceptional attention after learning about Mephibosheth, who was "lame in his feet" (2 Sam. 9:3). I think David was at his best because of his physical state and his position in Saul's family.
In God's plan, those with impairments perform a special role. Let's take David's example as a model.
