I am . . . not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. — 1 Corinthians 15:9

Adam accused Eve when God confronted him for eating from the forbidden tree (Gen. 3:12). Since then, people have made an effort to absolve themselves of accountability for their acts by blaming others or external factors.

The apostle Paul provided us with guidance on how to react. He acknowledged the terribleness of his sin and the kindness of God toward him (1 Cor. 15:9–10).

We are grateful to You, Lord, for endowing us with reason and the capacity to distinguish between good and evil, truth and lies. When we make the incorrect decisions, please help us to take responsibility for them and ask for Your pardon.

Making an explanation for your sin will not make it go away.
