As His people observed the Feast of Tabernacles, the Lord must have been glad of His people. As they made their way to Jerusalem, tens of thousands of Israelites conversed and joked with one another. They built booths out of tree branches and camped there for a week. They joyfully and joyfully gave gifts in the temple as a thanksgiving offering (Dt. 16:13–15; Neh. 8:17).
This attitude permeated the first-century Christians' celebration of the Lord's Day.
