Young or old, the best among us still think and behave sinfully. We need Jesus Christ to help us live a life that pleases God and to grant us the forgiveness that comes from faith in Him.
In Luke 18, the young affluent ruler displayed a strong sense of morality and religion. But Jesus revealed to him his fundamental selfishness within (vv. 22–23). He too required pardon. He need the gift of the Holy Spirit as well as a new birth.
Don't let us fool ourselves. We all need Jesus, regardless of how good or how horrible we may be.
Nobody is so wicked that God cannot help him; nobody is good enough to save himself. Nothing but what I received has been given to me by grace since I began to believe; boasting is excluded, pride I abhor—I am merely a sinner redeemed by grace!
