Jesus cautioned His listeners about the negative effects of wrath in the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5:23–24). In Ephesians 4:31, Paul admonished his readers to put "all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, and evil speaking" to rest. According to God, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay" (Rom. 12:19).
When you are upset by someone else's careless or malicious behaviour, pray to diffuse your emotional explosives. Aim to "overcome evil with good" (v. 21) by asking the Holy Spirit to help you let go of any desire to exact revenge.
The two-edged sword of revenge cuts the one who uses it. Lord, show me what to say when someone wrongs me. May I love those who persecute them and pray constantly for them.
