You shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect. — Matthew 5:48

Nothing less than perfection will do for God. Any imperfections would violate divine specifications. This was emphasised by Jesus in Matthew 5:21–48. He began by telling His audience, "You have heard"—that is the human norm. Then He added, "But I say to you"—that is the norm set by God. On six of life's most important topics, such as wrath (vv. 21–22), sexual purity (vv. 27–30), marital fidelity (vv. 31–32), honesty in speech (vv. 33–37), nonretaliation (vv. 38–42), and handling of enemies (vv. 43–48), he emphasised the perfection by which God's children should stand out from the crowd.

Father, pardon us for settling for what may be good but isn't good enough, or for settling for anything less than the finest. By Your Spirit, grant us perseverance as we pursue being flawless as You are (v. 48).

We're moving in the correct way if we're aiming for perfection. Never let it stop being good, better, and best until your good is better and your better's best.
