Satan is a skillful manipulator; in fact, Jesus referred to him as "the ruler of this world" (John 16:11). The instructors who were attempting to convince the Colossians to accept error as truth were motivated by him (Col. 2:4, 8).
Christians now are engaged in a comparable conflict. How can we protect ourselves from liars? In his remarks to the Colossians, Paul utilized military jargon that can guide us as to what to do. He first praised them for their "good order," which meant that they were disciplined, battle-ready soldiers. He also mentioned their "steadfastness" in Christ, which is another way of saying that they were putting up a strong front. They remained steadfast in their devotion to their Lord and the expansion of His kingdom.
Don't fall into Satan's deceptions. Knowing the accuracy of God's Word and being prepared for battle by a disciplined lifestyle and unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ.
The best defense against Satan's falsehoods is God's truth. Satan cannot trick us because God's Word is embedded in our hearts, and the shield of faith shields us from his flaming darts.
