Similar to the Pharisees, who were clean on the surface but remained filthy inside, individuals who try to please God by leading a virtuous life without first placing their faith in Christ are like them (Mt. 23:25).
Your heart cannot be changed by good deeds. Only genuine faith in Christ can result in internal and external cleansing. Then, God will be pleased with your good deeds and upright lifestyle.
Our salvation is a result of God's righteousness, not our own. By our words, deeds, or worth, we cannot earn eternal life; however, when we put our faith in Jesus Christ, He will give us new life.
