Jonah prayed . . . from the fish's belly. And he said, "I cried out to the Lord because of my affliction, and He answered me." — Jonah 2:1-2

 Jonah had to be feeling really uncomfortable inside the fish. However, a lot of people in this oppressive and dark society appear to believe that their current situation is actually rather pleasant. They think that a few minor social and political reforms are all that the world need. Additionally, they contend that all necessary improvements can be made by individuals themselves.

The Bible, however, teaches that "the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one" (1 John 5:19), therefore this is not the evidence of God's Word.

Since He has come to "convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement" (Jn. 16:8), it is unquestionably not the testimony of the Spirit of Truth. The basic purpose of the church is to announce salvation as the only means of escape, not to bring about social and political change in the world.

Jonah didn't have the audacity to think that God would make him a little more comfortable inside the fish, but he did look for a way out. The Lord heard him when he cried out to him.

We are instructed not to seek perfection in this world, but rather to anticipate the day when Christ will reimagine it and usher in everlasting righteousness.

Laying up riches for the afterlife is our primary goal in this world. I am a foreigner in this distant country.
My house is on the golden sand, far distant;
a representative of lands above the sea;
For my King, I'm here on business.
