The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? — Jeremiah 17:9

Given this, our text then poses the question, "Who can know it?" Jeremiah 17:9. Not man, of course, as Proverbs 28:26 states that "he who trusts in his own heart is a fool." God alone, who searches our hearts, is the only one who can provide us with any insight into our actual spiritual reflection (Jer. 17:10).

If we believe we are sinless, God, who is aware of all things, says we are only deceiving ourselves (1 John 1:8). Because it is "a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart," His Word sheds light on the situation (Heb. 4:12). We won't realise that we are not worthy of God's glory until we evaluate ourselves against his standards.

It is only then that we will recognise our desperate need for salvation and embrace His kind offer of purification.

The Bible will point you the errors in your actions before you commit them!  Because of the evil that is within, your conscience and heart are unable to safely lead you; nevertheless, if you want an accurate reflection of who you are, the Bible will reflect your true self.
