Habakkuk, the prophet, shared the same viewpoint. He wouldn't allow anything to undermine his hope or weaken his faith. Rather than gazing ahead with gloomy concerns about what more might go wrong, he looked forward with confidence in God, regardless of what might occur. Habakkuk said that he would keep trusting in the Lord to provide for his necessities, even if he lost everything he owned (vv. 17–19).
Instead of focusing on our circumstances, we should lift our eyes to the Lord. We're supposed to live above the darkness of fear and enjoy the sunshine of faith.
Faith's response to disappointment should always be, "Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation," even though, like Habakkuk, we may have a long list of troubles (v. 18). With that kind of mindset, we may rise above the circumstances rather than fall behind them.
Allow Jesus to take up your heavy load as you travel the tired path of life. Despite the fact that my trees bear no fruit and that there are no grapes on the vine, Christ is everything that I am and all that is sweet.
