They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds. — Jude 1:12

One of the most remarkable and vivid portrayals of renegade teachers can be found in the book of Jude. They are compared to "clouds without water" (v. 12) because they stack up for themselves the terrible and certain judgement of God (v. 4).

These people make the assertion that they are celestial messengers with greater wisdom or might. Others cover themselves in "sheep's clothing" (Mt. 7:15) and present an outward beauty in form and intent, but they disavow the Lord who purchased them (2 Peter 2:1).

They are said to be "carried about by the winds" (Jude 12) because they have no absolute standards of truth because they do not accept the infallibility of the Bible. Do not many preachers today fit this description?

They rumble in their pulpits and make lofty claims about the thirst-quenching truth, yet they leave men with parched, lifeless hearts.

We should heed Jude's warning that "but you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God" (vv. 20–21) because such "ravenous wolves" (Mt. 7:15) have impersonated sheep and infiltrated the herd.
Maintain a tight hold on the truth to prevent being drawn into mistake. Holy Bible, divine book,
You are mine, precious treasure:
Tell me where I come from, please
Mine to help me learn who I am.
