Abide in Him, that when He appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed. — 1 John 2:28

The apostle John advised Christians to live holy lives by remaining in Christ because we never know when He will come back in 1 John 2:28.

Although I'm not sure why we don't hear about this truth as often these days, I have a good idea of a few potential causes. One reason is that we could not actually believe that Jesus could return suddenly. Another reason is that we might not be as concerned with leading pure and holy lives as God would have us be.

Since the Lord is always aware of our actions, we must constantly be mindful of the fact that we must honour Him via our words, deeds, and attitudes.

However, considering that it is clearly addressed in God's Word, the idea that we may feel ashamed at His coming seems more sobering.

What is the message then? We may be sure that we won't feel embarrassed when Jesus returns if we live each day for Him.

You see a difference in your life while you wait for Christ's return. O Lord, please come back for us soon so that we won't feel ashamed but rather glad and confident that we won't be held accountable.
