The caller declared that he had a good upbringing, often attended church, and expressed trust in Jesus Christ. But now he was addicted to porn and bad behaviour.
If the author of Hebrews had the ability to speak to this young man, he would have explained to him that he had a problem with sin and that God was correcting him out of love by chastening him (12:7–11). After exhorting him to repent, he would have advised him to fully dedicate himself to honouring the Lord (vv. 12–14), stay on the straight and narrow road for his own welfare and the good of others, and strive for a life characterised by peace and purity.
God's plan for wholeness involves more than just searching within. It involves acknowledging our guilt and turning to Christ for mercy. Although it is challenging, true wholeness is gratifying.
God's correction aims to conform us to the image of His Son. When God starts working in us, He examines every aspect of our lives. He exposes all of our faults, both big and small, until each one is rejected.
