 A television news report during a riot in a large city showed a man pointing at shoplifters who were scurrying in and out of the stores.  

A similar remark was made by the prophet Isaiah. The Israelites had committed the unimaginable by succumbing to the vices of their neighbouring pagans. Additionally, rather of depending on the Lord to defend them from their adversaries, they had signed a treaty with Assyria (2 Kings 16:1–9). 

They were worried about the wrong things, according to Isaiah. They ought to have feared the Lord, not feared their adversaries (Isa. 8:12–13). For those who place their trust in the Lord, He has vowed to provide a haven.

We who claim to follow Christ must make sure that God is the one we dread. Whenever we participate in other people's misdeeds or act in a way that suggests we are worried about offending them, onlookers will comment, "Don't they believe in God?"

The task before us is to fear the Lord above all else and to demonstrate that fear in both our actions and words.

 

The world will not know a friend of God. Sin and shame are horrible everywhere, therefore let's be faithful, be confident of our calling, serve Christ and follow His example, and let's be honest in our words and deeds.
