Jesus made the decision to empathise with the needy and disadvantaged during His time on earth. He lived as if He had nowhere to go (Mt. 8:20), and His ministry was characterised by kindness to the poor.
Why not show someone the love of God? You will be serving Christ and, possibly, a disguised angel by your giving (Heb. 13:2).
God's love is manifested in food. Giving to the needs of the world, sharing as the Spirit directs, showing concern when the world cries, and showing compassion with Christlike eyes are all examples of love.
