Although there are several references in the Bible to spirits that serve God and worship Him, there is a good reason why they are shrouded in mystery. Even if they serve us on God's behalf, their control over our ultimate well-being is not absolute. They serve as models for us of the adoration and obedience that God deserves, but they are not meant to draw our attention away from the One who is both their Lord and ours.
Hebrews 1 has a clear message. The angels have no chance against Jesus (v. 4). They taught us that only Christ is deserving of our faith and worship.
Not as objects of worship, but as examples of worship, are angels. The angels serve as examples of what it is to serve and obey God, and their unceasing adoration of the Lord encourages us to pray.
