The Lord surrounds His people from this time forth and forever. — Psalm 125:2

 I recently had a conversation with a man who voiced his concern about the future. He's convinced that the stock market will collapse. He believes that demonic forces will overtake our nation and that materialism will infiltrate the church. Even though he claims to believe in Jesus Christ, he nevertheless worries that he might accidentally or unintentionally enter damnation. 

We are reminded not to be afraid about the future in Psalm 125. The psalmist gives thanks to God because He has vowed to keep His people safe and secure. The psalmist proclaimed that the Lord surrounds His people eternally, just as the mountains surrounding Jerusalem will not be moved (vv. 1–2). 

God says He will give us His grace. 

Because He says so, we are secure for all of eternity. No one of His own will be taken from His Father's hand, according to what Jesus said in John 10:28. Paul also stated in Romans 8:38–39 that nothing can separate us from God's love.

This does not give us licence to commit sin. Paul made a strong point regarding the contradiction of leading an immoral lifestyle after having "died to sin" (Rom. 6:1-4).

We have every reason to believe that our future is as safe as God's unchanging nature because we know the Lord and walk in His ways.

 

When you know God is going with you, you don't need to be afraid of where you're headed. Be calm, my soul; your God is committing to guiding the future as He has done the past; keep your hope and confidence unshaken; eventually, everything that is currently mysterious will become clear.
