You shall not covet. — Romans 7:7

That motto is true, as anyone who has ever known a toddler can attest. This behaviour is expected in young children, but we hate it in adults. The term for it is covetousness.

Before he started following Jesus, the apostle Paul lived an outwardly holy life and struggled with that sin (Rom. 7:7). He studied the law attentively and saw covetousness for what it was. But Paul was transformed by God via His grace. He transformed from a coveting, grasping man to a sincerely giving one (Acts 20:33–35). Being generous could be the litmus test for determining whether or not we are still spiritual infants.

Have you given Jesus Christ permission to reshape your heart so it is charitable? Or do you continue to adhere to the "Toddler's Creed"?

Selfishness is overcome by gratitude.
