God demanded animal sacrifices under the Old Testament law, which pointed to Christ's death on the cross for our sins. Although they came to a stop with His death, the Lord still longs for His followers to offer him spiritual sacrifices.
Any endeavour to gain God's favour or draw attention to oneself has no merit in God's eyes. However, He takes great pleasure in actions that flow from love-based faith (Galatians 5:6). They are spiritual offerings that result from fully dedicating ourselves to Him (Rom. 12:1-2). He is pleased when we give thanks consistently in the name of Jesus, act righteously, and help others (Heb. 13:15–16).
The cost of some spiritual sacrifices will be high. However, the gain—His praise—is always greater than the loss.
