The issue is the same for those who are hesitant to approach God. Some may have endured unfair treatment from spiritual authorities. Others might have grown up with an unhealthy dread of God. Others, blinded by their sin, focus solely on God's fair demands for justice and fail to perceive His loving provision of His Son's atoning sacrifice.
Because Samuel revealed their wickedness, the people in today's Bible reading (1 Sam. 12) were terrified. But he also said that God yearned to pardon them.
We must swap out unhealthy worries for rational ones. The pain of going to God is considerably less painful than the pain of ignoring Him, as God's Word consistently reminds us. The fact that we can "come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy" (Heb. 4:16) because of Jesus gives us further assurance.
God desires to replace the gaps in our hearts with Himself, much like a dentist fills cavities in our teeth. Do not let your worries prevent Him.
Only God is able to satisfy the void in the heart. I rest my spirit in the consolation of God's love, which is soft, healing, and vast. I abide in its peace.
