There are several ways to protect yourself. What does a Christian, however, do? Where does he go when danger is all around him?
David was aware. Psalm 31 was written at a time when he was experiencing difficulties. He was hurting, weak, and exhausted. His thoughts were troubled. His heart was torn apart. His allies had abandoned him, and his enemies were pursuing him. Although he was in a precarious situation, he was not helpless. He understood that God is the finest conceivable source of security and that the best form of defense is a genuine connection with Him. There he found safety, that's where.
David invoked the name of the Lord, much as a young child feels secure in yelling for his bigger brother when a bully threatens him.
He concealed himself in the safety of the One who had aided him so many times before and who loved him with an unending love because he was living in friendship with Him.
Are we equally eager to find that security? God is dependable. He was David's safe haven, and He is also the one we should rely on to keep us safe.
The presence of God is where safety is found, not in the absence of danger. My life is hidden in the depths of His love, and He covers me there with His hand. He hides my soul in the cleft of the rock that shadows a parched, desolate region.
