Imagine entering your living room one morning after waking up and discovering a large man who you had never seen before asleep on your couch. A Michigan preacher and his wife experienced this. In actuality, the sleeping hulk was found by the pastor's wife.
The man was awakened from his nap and the police were called. To everyone's amazement, it was revealed that he had formerly lived there and that, when inebriated, he mistakenly believed he had returned home.
What we let affect us determines where we go and what we do. Alcohol fooled the intruder, who decided to be under its influence, and caused him to act differently than he would have otherwise.
In John 16:7 and 13, Jesus made a promise that He would send the Holy Spirit to be our Helper and to lead us into all truth. As we read God's Word and act on what we've learned, the Spirit works in our lives. We may be confident that as we give Him leadership over our lives, He will never misdirect us.
The best influence is the Holy Spirit!
Without the Holy Spirit's filling, the human spirit fails. God's breath, come upon me and renew my life so that I may love and act in accordance with His will.
