It is more important to maintain the proper inner separation than the proper outside location if one wants to live a God-honoring life in an evil world. Not where we live, but how we live is what matters most. The Lord Jesus' main request in John 17 for His followers was to "keep them in the world, but keep the world out of them."
yet how can we keep this equilibrium of being "in the world, but not of it"? Only by consistently receiving the Word of truth into our hearts and following that Word (v. 17).
We must exist in the world, but let's take care to avoid letting the world and its ideals inhabit us.
To keep the world out, take in the word. Help me, Lord, to live this day free from everything that would ensnare me in the glitz and extravagance of this world, but never of it.
