I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. — Psalm 32:5

Every act of sin entails a cost. The consequences could be little or severe, but the bill is always due. There is always a price.

In order to cover up his adultery with Bathsheba, the psalmist David engineered her husband's death, for which he paid a heavy price. His vitality was drained by guilt (Ps. 32:3–4). Although David admitted his guilt and God "removed the nail," he still carried a heavy burden of sorrow (2 Samuel 12:15–17). However, this did not deprive him of the blessing of pardon.

Even though we might have to deal with the aftereffects of sin, those of us who have placed our faith in Christ as the atoning sacrifice for our transgressions can rejoice in His total pardon.

God heals the scars of sin, but sometimes there are still wounds. How blessed is the one whose sin has been completely covered in front of heaven and whose transgression has been freely pardoned.
