Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. — Hebrews 9:28

The ancient Aztecs carried out their heinous ritual of human sacrifice high atop the great pyramid of the temple of Tenochtitlan in Mexico. They thought that each dawn the sun god needed the nutrition of human blood to ward off the night.

We detest the act of human sacrifice, and God detests it even more. That is what makes Jesus Christ's sacrifice so incredible. However, as we investigate it, we see how distinct it was from those terribly misguided pagan ceremonies.

According to God's Word, the human family was exposed to sin as a result of Adam's fall. God is holy, hence removing sin would be necessary if man was to reestablish a relationship with Him. Only Jesus, who was God manifest in human form, led a sinless life and was able to remove man's barrier to God by paying the price for sin. And He paid for us with His suffering.

In an effort to placate the gods, the Aztecs sacrificed humans. But the living and genuine God, in order to fulfill the requirements of His holiness and the purposes of His love, sent His own Son to die in our place. Jesus, God's righteous Son, is the ideal offering. But simply being aware of the truth is insufficient. To accept Him, we must.

Have you placed your faith in God's flawless offering?

Christ paid the payment, making our Salvation free. Here, we pause in awe as we see Jesus die for all of our sins, resulting in a complete atonement.
