This man, like the individuals Paul described in Romans 1, decided not "to retain God in [his] knowledge" (v. 28). His choice was influenced by his own rebellious nature and by negative encounters.
The elements that went into this man's conclusion should test those of us who follow Christ. He claimed that among the Christians he has encountered and transacted business with, he has seen little evidence of Christlikeness. And all of this took place in a city that is awash in churches. He has noticed that many people who identify as Christians are just as avaricious, dishonest, cruel, ungrateful, and dissatisfied as non-Christians. Such Christians "profane the Lord's name" and offer unbelievers a reason to reject God, just like the Israelites in Ezekiel's time.
Lord, help me to be the kind of Christian who will make it impossible for unbelievers to reject You. I want my existence to be a benefit, not a burden.
Either Christians are Bibles or they are liars.
How will individuals in the darkness of sin be led, assisted, and prevailed upon if Christians conceal their brilliant light and do not reflect God's Son?
