Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. — Joshua 24:15

Joshua gathered the children of Israel at Shechem as his life was coming to an end. And there, from the lips of a man who was on the verge of death, came an appeal that has touched many people's hearts over the ages. Joshua commanded, "Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve" (Josh. 24:15).

This difficulty raises three important insights about our redemption when seen in the context of the New Testament. We must first choose between the devil and God. When we reject Christ, we instantly support the devil. According to Jesus, "He who is not with Me is against Me" (Matthew 12:30).

Second, this decision is an individual one. Joshua commanded, "Choose for yourselves whom you will serve." We can experience rebirth and become children of God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. However, we have to believe for ourselves.

Third, this allegation has a sense of urgency. "Choose for yourselves this day," not next week, not next month, not the day after today, but today.

Have you made that crucial decision yet? Have you placed your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ to save you? If not, start right away! Never forget that you have a choice.

The future may not come later, thus the time to choose the Lord is now. Everyone has the option to choose salvation, but if we don't do it right away, we might not get the chance to.
